Letters to Pappa Moo - sources for stuff

As part of the ongoing what we are doing and stuff you might find a growing list of things you didn't know you wanted or needed. This one is short but just some low key info on where you can get additional resources for tools, supplies and general bits o stuff. Also, be sure you shop around for stuff. A lot of suppliers carry similar if not the same products but will have amazingly different prices on the stuff.

For any type of metal work, machining or just stuff you didn't need to know a great source is MSC industrial. What I like to call the big ars book. MSCdirect.com homepage will tell you about all the great stuff they have. Best of all, their giant book is avl in a cd rom. Personally I like the book but for the minimal amount of stuff I order (haven't actually placed an order with these cats in a couple years)

Brining the focus back more into knifes one of the best places for some specialty tools is Jantz Knife company. www.jantzsupply.com These guys have everything knife related you can think of from buffing compound to machinery and more. In fact, if your just starting out they have a lot of cook knife kits that go together very easily.

Another knife supplier that I have used in the past is http://www.texasknife.com/ although I haven't ordered from them in a long time. Their selection has grown since I last ordered from them.

Specializing in more exotic materials http://www.sheffieldsupply.com/ is a great company. They have some weird hard woods, bone ect. And a fairly decent source for Damascus if your not up to making your own yet.

Another source for some good stuff is www.centaurforge.com They have more blacksmith related stuff but still they have tools that are just amazing.

Don't be afraid of doing a web search for what your looking for. These are not necessarily the best places or prices for where to get stuff from but they have about anything you might be looking for. Its just some ideas of places to look.
